Giving Ticks Upward: Donations to Education Rise by 2.7% in 2004
Giving USA, an annual yearbook on philanthropy, reported that educational institutions received an estimated $33.8 billion last year, an increase of 2.7 percent. The gain followed three straight years of declines.
The ups and downs in giving to education over the past several decades appear to closely mirror the rise and fall of the stock market, according to the report. In 2000, for example, donations to education jumped nearly 12 percent.
