NSFA national affiliate sgo network

Local Leadership. National Support. More opportunity for Public School Students

Build, manage, and locally lead your school district or community’s Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) with the structure, tools, and national support to expand PreK–12 scholarship access. The National School Foundation Association, Inc. (NSFA) is creating an affordable affiliate network to help public school communities participate in the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC) program.

Your community leads. NSFA helps you succeed.

Your SGO has its own name, EIN, local board, and community relationships. Local leaders direct fundraising, scholarship awards, and operations within NSFA’s charter standards. NSFA will charter one SGO per public school district, working with education foundations, school systems, and education-focused community partners.

  • Formation support. Legal document templates and guidance to establish your local nonprofit and prepare for inclusion in NSFA’s national group tax exemption inclusion.
  • A simpler exemption pathway. Once approved and properly included in NSFA’s IRS group exemption, your SGO is recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity without a separate tax exemption application.
  • Tools and ongoing support. SGO software, training, technical assistance, best practices, peer connections, and communications templates for your community.
  • Shared standards and accountability. NSFA provides national guidance and oversight. Affiliates are responsible for their own financial reporting and providing financial reports to NSFA.
